The Mumford Preserve

Marathon County

"The Three Rolls"

The 160-acre property, located in Aniwa, WI, contains mixed hardwood-conifer forest, wetlands, and 3,000 feet of frontage on the Eau Claire River. One area is known as “The Three Rolls”, where the river goes over a series of three granite ledges. The Mumford Preserve encompasses outstanding and diverse natural communities that provide habitat for a wide variety of fish, plants, and wildlife.

In 2000, Luigi and Manly Mumford placed a conservation easement on the property with NCCT. The property was donated to NCCT in 2019 by Luigi Mumford and her family, and became the organization’s first public Nature Preserve.

Throughout 2025, NCCT improved the property’s access and parking area, installed an informational kiosk, installed picnic and Leopold benches, and expended the trail network with a grant provided by the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin and countless staff and volunteer hours.
