North Central Conservancy Trust (NCCT) invited members of the community to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 31st, 2026 at their Big Cain Creek Nature Preserve, to celebrate the Preserve’s official opening.
In 2025, NCCT received the generous donation of the Big Cain Creek Preserve, a 30-acre property in Marathon County containing a diverse forest ecosystem and a quarter mile of Big Cain Creek, a Class A trout stream. With support from the Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin, NCCT implemented a series of enhancements throughout the spring of 2026, including the installation of a new kiosk, interpretive signage, benches, and a trail system that leads to the Creek.
With these improvements completed, the Preserve offers a more welcoming and inviting experience for visitors. These improvements will increase the visibility and accessibility of the Preserve while maintaining its ecological and conservation value. Community members are now able to visit the preserve for gentle recreation, nature exploration, and a place of serenity.
The Community Foundation of North Central Wisconsin’s purpose is to strengthen our region by connecting the philanthropic generosity of donors with impactful solutions that will last for generations. They inspire charitable giving to invest in a brighter community and have funded hundreds/thousands of various projects all across north central Wisconsin to strengthen and enrich the community.
