    9:00 AM-3:00 PM
    May 27, 2026

Friends of NCCT – Upcoming Volunteer Opportunity!

Trail Building Workdays at the Big Cain Creek Preserve, Town of Texas, Marathon County:

    • Wednesday, May 27, 9am-3pm
    • Thursday, May 28, 9am-3pm
    • Friday, May 29, 9am-3pm

NCCT is building a trail at the Big Cain Creek Preserve, and we’d love to have your help! These workdays will focus on removing tree stumps and shrubs from the surface of the new trail, some light trail tread development, “raking and scraping” the surface of the trail, and hauling brush. NCCT will provide tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and eye protection as needed. No prior experience necessary, all are welcome.

If you own any trail building tools that you are willing to bring, we could use the following: mattocks, McLeods, Pulaskis, a rock bar, and a Sawzall.

**Note: this property has some technical, rocky footing/terrain, and steep slopes. The only bathroom available on site is nature’s bathroom. Please plan accordingly.

MEET/PARK: Meet at the Big Cain Creek Preserve on Cattle Road north of Wausau. Click here for Google Maps. Road is narrow, please park on east shoulder.

DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 39/51N, take exit 197 and go east on Cty Rd WW for 10 miles. Then go east on River Hills Rd for 2 miles, then north on N73rd St/River Hills Rd for 2 miles. Slight left onto Cattle Rd. Click here for Google Maps.
