August 14, 2026: Volunteer Workday at Suszko Ridge

Join NCCT for an invasive species workday at the Suszko Ridge Preserve in Waushara County! During this workday we will pull spotted knapweed and/or clip its flower heads, and bag it to be disposed of off-site. NCCT will provide tools, work gloves, safety glasses, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) as needed. No prior experience necessary, all are welcome!

MEET/PARK: Meet at the Suszko Ridge parking area on Blackhawk Road in Wautoma. Click here for Google Maps. Once the parking area is full, please park on the south side of the road as far off the pavement as (safely) possible.

DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 73, go west on Brown Deer Drive for 0.9 miles, then go north on Blackhawk Road for 0.25 miles. Look for the white NCCT EVENT signs.

SAFETY NOTES: 

• Wear long sleeves and pants, and work gloves as knapweed can cause skin irritation in some people. (Spotted knapweed produces catechin, a natural chemical that can cause a reaction for sensitive individuals). 

PLEASE BRING: 

• Weather appropriate clothing, rain gear, and footwear for secure footing. We will work in light rain, but not during inclement weather.
• Water and beverages
• Lunch and snacks (lunch will not be provided)
• Sunscreen and insect repellant
• PPE such as leather work gloves and safety glasses
• Anything else you need for a comfortable and safe volunteer experience.

This workday is weather dependent. Please RSVP so we can communicate about changes to the plan.

The only bathroom available on site is nature’s bathroom. Please plan accordingly.
