Trail Building Workdays at the Big Cain Creek Preserve, Town of Texas, Marathon County:
- Wednesday, May 27, 9am-3pm
- Thursday, May 28, 9am-3pm
- Friday, May 29, 9am-3pm
NCCT is building a trail at the Big Cain Creek Preserve, and we'd love to have your help! These workdays will focus on removing tree stumps and shrubs from the surface of the new trail, some light trail tread development, "raking and scraping" the surface of the trail, and hauling brush. NCCT will provide tools and personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and eye protection as needed. No prior experience necessary, all are welcome.
If you own any trail building tools that you are willing to bring, we could use the following:Â mattocks, McLeods, Pulaskis, a rock bar, and a Sawzall.Â
**Note: this property has some technical, rocky footing/terrain, and steep slopes. The only bathroom available on site is nature’s bathroom. Please plan accordingly.
MEET/PARK: Meet at the Big Cain Creek Preserve on Cattle Road north of Wausau. Click here for Google Maps. Road is narrow, please park on east shoulder.
DIRECTIONS: From Hwy 39/51N, take exit 197 and go east on Cty Rd WW for 10 miles. Then go east on River Hills Rd for 2 miles, then north on N73rd St/River Hills Rd for 2 miles. Slight left onto Cattle Rd. Click here for Google Maps.
PLEASE BRING:Â
- Weather appropriate clothing, rain gear, and footwear for secure footing
- Water and beverages
- Lunch and snacks (lunch will not be provided)
- Sunscreen and insect repellant
- PPE such as leather work gloves and safety glasses
- Anything else you need for a comfortable and safe volunteer experience.

Join NCCT as we celebrate another year of successful conservation in Central Wisconsin at our Annual Harvest Dinner Fundraiser & Friend-raiser! Thursday, September 24th from 4:30-8:00 PM at the Pfiffner Building, in Pfiffner Park!
There will be dinner catered by local businesses, a special presentation by NCCT staff, a silent auction and raffle, as well as live music.
